Josh White Final

Here is a final look at my character. I really learned a lot over this semester (I finally became competent with max), and even over these last 8 weeks. As for the character, Not exactly satisfied with how it ultimately turned out ( I personally think he would have been laughed off of a PS1 Game), but I can finally say that I modeled a character. I want to get better at Character Modeling (I was surprised at how much fun it can be at times), so i think this will serve as a really fantastic insight into my beginnings.

Low Poly Character

So, I'm still behind somewhat. I had hoped to have a full sculpt done by now, but I finally have the base meshes "done." Also, If it looks like the neck isn't connected, that's because it isn't.

Here is what I have been working on. I have been adding some alpha maps to add a fluffy look to the collar and to break the hair silhouette.

Work

Spirit Material

I've been playing around in Max's material editor trying to get a translucent material for the spirit that is in my armor. I'm almost there. I want it to have more of a glowing effect. I also need to clean up the mesh of the spirit a little more before I take that and add it to my armor in zBrush, where I will do the final posing.

I plan to use one of Lynn's tutorial videos to enhance the glowing effect.

Not much...

I've been a little pressed for time in the past week, but I did get some work done on getting the neck of the spirit into the armor. I also fixed some of the placing of the arm so that it didn't cut into the armor pieces so much. I still have some issues with the topology of the spirit (very blocky), but I will be working on that.

Ear Tutorial

For anyone who needs an ear tutorial...

Character Progress - Head

I tried a multitude of different ways to build the head this weekend. That can be attributed to the lack of progress. The method I settled on was to outline the head via a line, extrude along that line to get the first row of poly's, then start extruding edges to shape the features of the face. This was the method that worked the best. Overall, I like head modeling about as much as I like NURBS (I think NURBS are the one true enemy of the world).

So far

Yay

So yay! I'm now only abou two weeks behind! Here is a VERY WIP of my base mesh. Still very rough. Going to have the head and clothing modeled by the end of the week and have it in zBrush this weekend.
